![]() The Obama-era program, DACA (deferred action for childhood arrivals) has been repealed, decided by current president Donald Trump. DACA allows certain illegal immigrants, who came into the country as minors, to get a work permit and prohibit them from getting deported. This is a 2 year program that can be renewed. Trump believes that allowing DACA to proceed will allow illegal immigrants to come into our country and commit felonies. Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions argue that “those in the country illegally are lawbreakers who hurt native-born Americans by usurping their jobs and putting down wages.” Former President Barack Obama says Trump’s decision is “ wrong” “self- defeating” and “cruel”. The program has around 800,000 recipients. The group is called “DREAMers”. They are planning on cancelling the program in 6 months. So what happens to those “DREAMers” now? “The recipients with permits, whose renewables are going to expire between now and March 5, will be able to re-apply as long as they are turned in by March 5.” The recipients could be deported if congress does not do something about it. What do you think about this decision?
