As a student you hear about climate change in school, on the news, and on social media. We know that the global warming rate is going twice as fast as it was in 1998 and this can’t be good for the planet. Those of us who believe that climate change is real probably stress about the end of the world and hope we don’t have to experience it. We want to contribute to the downfall of our planet as little as possible, but it’s difficult because kids as young as we are don’t own a house or a car. These are some tips you can use as a student to help the earth.

- Use beauty products without microbeads: Many beauty products have ‘microbeads’ which are tiny plastic particles used as an exfoliant in facewashes and even toothpastes. The trouble with these are, after they wash down the drain, they don’t biodegrade and are too small to be able to be captured by wastewater facilities so they end up in our rivers, lakes and oceans.

- Compost and recycle: If you are capable, it’s important to keep as little trash in the landfill as possible because it’s awful for the earth. Recycling and composting trash helps you lessen the amount of pollution you’re responsible for.

- Carpool and ride the bus: Driving to and from school is a daily task that takes lots of energy. Riding the bus or getting a ride with someone creates way less pollution on your part because there aren’t as many vehicles involved.

- Change lightbulbs to led in your house: This is a step you may not be able to do depending on your situation, but making sure the lightbulbs in your house are LED uses way less energy, and it’s even better if you can convert to solar panels.

- Eat less meat: This is probably the hardest step, but the meat and food industry is the number 4th cause for global warming. Eating less or even cutting meat out of your diet is so helpful for the earth. If everyone ate less meat,The earth would do so much better.
