![]() Despite the fact that volleyball isn’t as popular as some sports; it’s enjoyable. Volleyball was originally called “Mintonette” due to the fact that it was similar to a game called “Badminton”. Badminton is a sport that is played on a rectangular court. Badminton is played with racquets and you have to hit a shuttlecock across a net. This sport is similar to tennis. The only difference is that a tennis net is touching the ground whereas a volleyball net is not. Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G Morgan. Volleyball is a combination of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball. Volleyball is a sport played with 2 teams; typically 6 players on each team at a time. It is played by hitting a ball over a tall net. To score points the ball has to hit the ground on the opponent's side. Volleyball is a uniform sport. Players must wear all black athletic shorts, team shirt including a number and typically school colors, as well as knee pads and tennis shoes. There are many terms used in volleyball: a pass, set, hit, serve, dig, ace, attack, double block, double hit, spike, and many more. Volleyball is typically an indoor sport; but you can play beach volleyball, pool volleyball, Newcomb volleyball, club volleyball, and outdoor volleyball. There are also many variations of volleyball such as shooting volleyball, footbag net, newcomb ball, footvolley, and sitting volleyball.
