The Story of Krampus

12/15/2017

Picture
Did you know that Santa has an evil twin? Well, he does, and his name is Krampus. He is part goat, part demon, and part beast. He has a chain and bells that he swings around and a bundle of sticks that he uses to beat the bad out of people. Instead of praising the good, he beats the bad until they learn their lesson.

In modern days, on the night of December 6th in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, and Czech Republic, people dress up like Santa’s evil twin. Then, to continue the tradition of whacking bad people, they go around whacking each other with sticks. In fact, you can even buy a Krampus costume here!

Krampus is celebrated many different ways in different countries. They have parades in Salzburg, Austria. The parade includes actors dressed up as Krampus. The Krampus costumes are made out of goat fur, so they are very expensive but very realistic. They even made a movie about Krampus last year!
