LaCroix is a sparkling water brand distributed by National Beverage Company. LaCroix is french for “The Cross” but, the headquarters is in LaCrosse, Wisconsin - not in France. LaCroix was invented by G. Heileman Brewing Company in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1981. LaCroix was very popular in the midwest during the 1990s’ but its recent rise to popularity outside of the US was very recent. Recently, LaCroix has become “trendy” because of decreased soda sales, and people searching for a healthier alternative. LaCroix is the answer to many peoples problems with soda. “As Americans try to eat healthier, they try to drink healthier too,” Taste of Home said.
Another reason that LaCroix has become more popular is because of the recent trend in people sharing their diets, food, and beverages on different social media platforms. Many people like to share that they are healthy on social media and having a healthy beverage, almost as an accessory, is a good way to show people that you are healthy and that you are conscious of your eating and drinking habits. LaCroix even sponsored the popular music festival Coachella. Seeing celebrities with LaCroix can also influence you to check it out. LaCroix is a current trend that many young people are into.
In my opinion, the best flavor is Pamplemousse (Grapefruit) and the worst is Melón Pomelo (Cantaloupe Grapefruit). We also did an taste test of 10 flavors in the classroom and overall the favorite flavor was Lemon, while the least favorite was Melón Pomelo (Cantaloupe Grapefruit). Asheville Middle School student, Liv Suydam, said that she was drawn to LaCroix because of its “enthusiastic flavor and great packaging.”
