The dunk contest is one of the most watched events in the NBA. The dunks are exciting, the audience is loud, and the atmosphere is competitive. One of the best dunk contests ever was the Michael Jordan v.s Dominique Wilkins. They versed in the 1988 dunk contest. Michael Jordan came out on top though. But Dominique Wilkins and Michael Jordan both won two dunk contests. That is just one of the many rivalries in the dunk contest.
The person who has won the most dunk contest was Nate Robinson who won 3 times. He jumped over 6’ 11” Dwight Howard in the 2009 dunk contest. But in the 2020 dunk contest, Aaron Gordon jumped over 7’ 5” Tacko Fall. Aaron has entered the dunk contest 2 times but has never won. He lost to Zach Lavine in 2016 and Derrick Jones Jr. in 2020, according to .nba.com/allstar/dunk-contest. But most people think he should have won both times. Gordon is not going to enter another dunk contest.
One of the most surprising wins in the dunk contests was in 1986 when Spud Webb. Spud webb is only 5’ 7” but still beat one of his own teammates, Dominique Wilkins . According to .si.com/nba-slam-dunk-contest the first person who won a dunk contest in 1884 was Larry Nance. He had a son Larry Nance Jr, Who competed in the 2018 dunk contest but was runner up. Most people think that Nance Jr. should have won. The dunk contest is one of the most awaited events on the all-star weekend and for good reason. The rich history of the dunk contest is one of the best in the NBA.
