![]() When we think of Halloween, we think of candy, costumes, and pumpkin everything. But have you ever thought about the history of Halloween? It all dates back to the eighteenth century, in the Celtic festival of Samhain. People would ward off ghosts by wearing costumes, and lighting bonfires. Halloween was actually originally called All Hallow's Eve, and some people believe it was because Pope Gregory lll declared November 1st the day to honor all Saints. After All Saint's day became a thing, it started to adopt some of All Hallow’s Eve traditional activities. However, as time went by, it picked up the name Halloween, and kids started dressing up and trick or treating. We still celebrate this holiday today, but it looks a little different. In October 2017, many horror movies that have come out have influenced costumes and decorations on Halloween. Movies like IT, the Exorcist, and Scream are all movies that are perfect for Halloween. Have a fun (and safe) time on this All Hallow’s Eve! Story By Callie Judson Sources: http://www.history.com/topics/halloween/history-of-halloween Comments are closed.
