Tuning![]() Tuning is basically the modification of a car to improve performance or looks. Usually if someone is talking about a tuner, they are talking about a tuned engine. There are different types of tuners, which I will list below. 1. Sleepers. A sleeper is a car someone modifies to not look modified but is very fast usually to avoid suspicion from cops and others. 2.Stance/Fitment. A stanced car is a car that the owner spends time on to make it as low and, well… stanced as possible. 3. JDM, Stands for Japanese domestic market. Usually jdm refers to 90s Japanese tuner cars. 4.2jz,rb26,sr20,vr38,2.0tfsi,1.8 5vc,ej20,1jz,cummins 12v. These are common engine codes you will hear about in tuning. Car Culture In AshevilleI have noticed that there are a lot of classic car meets in Asheville and surrounding areas, I have also noticed that there is a big supercar community around here, like Audi R8s and Dodge Vipers. There is a big community of Subarus around here that put aftermarket exhausts and performance parts on them. One limiting factor in the car community in Asheville are environmentalists, who sometimes don't get along with car enthusiasts, because of their love of electric and hybrids. Many environmentalists are protesting against modifications, along with gasoline and diesel engines! There are lots of off-roaders here because of the great terrain, icy winters, and good trails. The most common trucks I see are Toyota Tacomas and 4-runners. Story by Nic Scagnoli
