The adventure begins when you ride the twist and turns of the mountain ridge to the orchard. As you're driving, you can feel the crisp fall air making its way up the mountain. The curves of the lonesome mountain back road lead you to the orchard like a treasure hunt. When you get to the orchard, the oddly familiar smell of apples and cinnamon wafts to your nose creating a sense of fall and change.
The Skytop Apple Orchard is known for it’s delicious apples and, of course, it’s sugary treats. They have over 20 different types of apples to choose from - and don’t forget about your fresh apple cinnamon donuts! The family first purchased the land in the 1960’s, not even intending for it to be an apple orchard. It’s hard to believe the huge and covered fields we know today were once almost empty hills.
Over the years the orchard has become more and more popular with the nearby towns and cities. This year the orchard was visited by an enormous group of visitors, making the lines for sweet treats and apple baskets almost unbearable. Notice the almost, the food made up for it! The fresh hot donuts from the bakery will make you question all of your early morning Dunkin’ runs.
The apples, on the other hand, will give you an adventure of their own. As you race to get to the best trees, you’ll find yourself scrambling up trees and down paths. Once you get past the big group of people, the massive orchard will give you a sense of relaxation and ease. Apple picking is not only a popular fall event, but a fun time with friends and family.
