Hurricane Irma caused a lot of destruction in it's path, even here in Asheville. Lots of people lost power here in Asheville for up to 24 hours. This tragedy made Asheville City and Buncombe County Schools close on Tuesday, September 12th. Lots of roads were closed due to the high winds making tree branches and limbs fall onto the road.
15 commercial planes coming to Asheville had to be canceled or rescheduled. Earlier predictions said there was a significant potential for major damage from Irma, in central and eastern North Carolina. Asheville was suppose to get , 1.75-3.25 inches of rain. There were three countries declared for emergency, they were Henderson, Jackson, and Macon. Overall, the damage here was not as bad as it could have been.
